Actually my biggest concern about this plot is that I don't understand how Drew became Anya's type. 10 episodes in a row now with a subplot featuring Wesley, Dave, and/or Connor? I guess it was supposed to set up possible foreshadowing for Drew too. I hope I care eventually because I'm sure their romance will be a huge focus this season, but. Riley's mom reminded me a lot of Marco's parents (mainly his dad).Īnd I'm the lone Degrassi fan who doesn't care about Eli and Clare, although I got a laugh out of when she accused him of being a sociopath. Also, the Anya/Riley friendship continues to be nice and refreshing. He's been struggling with his identity for three straight seasons and I think this might have been the first real breakthrough for him. It's been frustratingly slow but I like that. Either it's gotten a lot more triggering or I'm nearing menopause.) I really like the pace of Riley's self-discovery. (Also, what the hell, this is like the 5th Degrassi episode this season that moved me to tears.
The scene with him at the homophobia awareness meeting was really powerful. I would've expected this thread to explode considering how Eclare is practically a fandom of its own. Riley sees the dangers of homophobia, but it may be too late for him to win back Zane (TV Guide) Sparks fly between Clare and Eli until he suddenly turns cold. But when he sees how "harmless" gay jokes affect Zane, he decides it's time to take a stand. Riley attempts to fit in with the guys on the football team. Riley starts to understand the devastating effects of homophobia.
