Motherhood brings out all the feelings but she's found that when she is a part of a community of people doing life together, a little of the burden is removed. When she writes she pulls from the joy of the little moments with her girls, the humor in the everyday, her faith and her experiences in loss. She has quite a few grey hairs, which proves she has wisdom, and a big heart made softer by the loss of three pregnancies. (That kind of sounded like a dating profile). She revels in laughing (many times at herself), meeting new people, and having deep meaningful conversations. When she's not brushing out tangled hair or cleaning spit-up off her leggings, she enjoys hiking, eating healthy foods, traveling, trying out new fun things to do in Nashville or reading books. Nashville has been her home since the end of 2014 and there is no looking back! Her husband, Lynn and two daughters, Ellis the threenager and 6-month-old Adeleine, fill her world with joy, exhaustion and glitter. What’s most important? You can do a countdown that incorporates a mixture of experiences, gifts, scripture, or anything else, really. If you’re like me and desire to slow down on the accumulation of stuff, then consider a countdown to Christmas that includes experiences like going on a drive in your van to see Christmas lights, Christmas carols with hot chocolate around the Christmas tree, going to see The Nutcracker, or any of the light shows in the area, ice skating, visiting Santa or doing a family service project, like Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. You can add the chain to the Christmas tree or some prominent place in the house so it’s always visible. Every day the month before Christmas, add a link to the Christmas chain and by the time Christmas comes along, the chain will be long. Your countdown can be as simple as making a paper chain.

If you’re really ambitious, hide a small gift around the house each day and hold a scavenger hunt. Every day, have the kids flip that day’s number around to reveal what’s on the back or let them hang that day’s number up on the string. On the back, have Christmas themed images or scripture or nothing at all. Make or buy the numbers for the countdown and put them on individual papers to hang on your mantle or in a common area.
